Mongolian Coal Association to collaborate with Poland

J. Zoljargal, Executive Director of the Mongolian Coal Association, met with researchers from the Central Mining Institute of Poland and got acquainted with the activities of the institute (2023.08.28).

At the meeting, the Mongolian Coal Association agreed to develop cooperation with the Polish Central Mining Institute.

In the first phase, representatives of coal mines will be involved in theoretical and practical training. It is planned to hold online lectures and short-term study tours. This work is being discussed with the Polish Embassy to implement it. The Polish Central Mining Institute was established in 1925 and is an organization under the Ministry of State Property. The organization provides design and consulting services to international mines and projects. Last year, it completed work worth 25 million USD. The Central Mining Institute has 455 employees, 134 of whom have doctoral degrees. Currently, more than 60 projects are being implemented.

The European Union no longer supports coal production. Therefore, the institute conducts research in the areas of biomass gasification, gasification of industrial and municipal solid waste with coal, liquefaction of coal, and fuel production. It also has experience in developing technologies for sequestering carbon dioxide from power plants, coal gasification, and heavy industry. Poland produces 55 million tons of hard coal annually through underground mining and 53 million tons of brown coal annually through open pit mining. The coal industry employs more than 70,000 people.
